Indian mPOS Set to Revolutionize Retail Sector

Indian retail market is evolving at a rapid pace riding on technology innovations and customers' changing preferences for superior shopping experience.

DNA Barcoding can Prevent Disease Outbreaks

The tall climes of steady upward growth are notwithstanding, the real estate sector in India, which is the second largest employment generator after agriculture, has been in doldrums for the last few years owing to economic downturn with developers looking for a ‘miracle’ which can turn the tide for the sector in 2016.

There have been a few positive developments in the recent past such as opening up of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), introduction of REITs and recently, the cabinet passing the much-awaited Real Estate Regulatory Bill which have created positive vibes among the real estate community.

How to Protect your POS from Malware Attacks

Cashless transactions, which were once considered to be safe and secured by millions of card holders around the world, are in danger of pilfering vital transaction data by unscrupulous hackers.

Over seven billion credit card holders globally are in risk of losing vital card data to fraudsters and cyber-criminals with 2016 going to be a challenging year for cyber security agencies to thwart the increasing attacks on POS installations.

A lesson or two from my Bangalore trip!

Bangalore aka Bengaluru may be a Garden City or India's Silicon Valley for many, but for us, the city has proved to be unlucky or I can say "jinxed" for more than one reason. I had been there for more than one occasion and each time proved to be arduous for us.

Few years ago, when we first packed our bags and left for Chennai Central to board a train to Bangalore, we missed the train in flicker, even though we left home well in advance. First, the auto in which we were travelling developed snag mid-way and then when we boarded another auto after a long search, an unusual traffic jam on PH Road delayed us or denied us to reach the station on time. By the time we reached the platform, we could only see the last bogie of the train leaving the platform. Alas!

The evolution of Point of Sale (POS) in India is closely linked to the growth of the retail sector, a major contributor to GDP, during the last two decades. Technology has played a key role in bringing sophistication, ease of use, efficiency and automation into the various business activities related to the retail sector. 

The evolution of POS in India can be attributed to a few major need-based factors. In the early 80s, the economy was sluggish, the purchasing power of people was much less and so were the number of retail stores and consumer items they traded. The industrial liberalization which started in the early 90s, opened the flood gates of economic activity and opportunities, and ever since there has been a steady increase in purchasing power among consumers. 

Store owners needed to stock more new and existing items to cater to the renewed customer needs. This had posed new challenges for them at Point of Sale as they had more customers to handle, more stocks to maintain and of course, more staff to manage.

E-commerce boom triggers Barcode Scanners and Printers market growth

The unprecedented growth in E-commerce sector coupled with government's initiative to digitize Public Distribution System (PDS) and introducing barcodes to issue driving licenses, are expected to trigger the growth of India's barcode scanners and printers market with CAGR hovering around 19% during 2015 - 2020.

According to 6Wreseach, the shipment value of Barcode scanners and printers has reached at US $ 1.48 million in the first quarter of 2014. In the scanning segment, single line Barcode Scanners has occupied around 83% market share, the report revealed.
