In India, about 70 per cent of the people in urban cities are living in rented accommodation. In most cases, no rental agreements are signed and in those cases, which have rental agreements in mere Rs 20 stamp papers, they are not registered to acquire validity. It is therefore pertinent that both the tenants and house owners should know certain basic facts on renting. Only high profile rental transaction agreements are registered to avoid future complications.
