Yesterday I had a visitor at my doors at 8 pm. He was the local police constable who came to my place for my passport verification. Puzzled to let him in at this odd hour, I opened the door in reluctance to slip him in.
Sat on the sofa comfortably, he asked for my identification documents, old passport, new passport (which I already received as I applied for reissue of passport with address change only).
I was about to go inside to fetch the original documents, his voice stopped me. 'Saar enga work pannreega' (Sir where are you working?) I told him I am working for an internet company, wondering why he asked such unnecessary question. But I did not tell him that I am a journalist. I did not know then that this asnwer would prove costly.
